earth quake story

Story #2

A category 3 earthquake hit the San Francisco Bay area yesterday morning.
The earthquake killed two people and injuring six others.

“I was eating my breakfast when the room started rolling.
I dove under the table just as I heard an explosion outside and a chunk of cement flew through my kitchen window. That’s when the screaming start across the street.” Says Hayward resident Mike beamer.

A building housing the McHenry's Auto supply partially collapsed which resulted in
two deaths and six near-fatal injuries.

The quake struck at 8:12 am, Many say they felt the rolling motion and it lasted
for about 30 seconds with a big jolt in the middle.

Hayward firefighters used ropes to stabilize the auto supply shop after conducting
a search in the building and finding a gas leak at the site.

A scientist from the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park. Gertz called the quake a
“strong one” and said it occurred on the Hayward Fault, which runs under the hills.

"Twenty-one fire personnel, 12 police, and five American Red Cross workers responded
to the building collapse, with some arriving within four minutes of the quake," Vu said.

Three of the six people injured were hurt seriously enough to require hospitalization.

“When I first felt the shaking I thought it was a machine or maybe a something heavy
fell, but it kept rumbling and knocked me to the ground; I split my eyebrow and got 7
stitches because of it,” says Janitor Mari Naomi at the next office building.

The quake has done a serious amount of costly damages around the state.

"People as far south as Los Angeles and as far north as Redding felt the quake," Gertz said

Although not as strong even places such as Los Angeles felt the jolt and that's hours away.

Huntington story

Story #1

A 53-year-old woman had been accidentally shot in her leg with her own gun. When investigating the scene, the bullet nearly missed the gas tank in her portable house by two inches. She claims the dog had knocked it over and made it go off.

"I just needed to go to the hospital, that's all! I don't need no extra investigating it was all an accident I swear." Says Jance Jones.

The police also noticed her dog Tombo had been malnourished and had fresh cigarette burns on its head.

"From what we are seeing we are not only concerned about the pooch but also the fact Janice had no permit for her gun." Claims the officer.

Janice Jones still keeps trying to point out how she never asked to get the police involved.

" I'm the victim here! I was the one who got shot! I didn't do nothing!" Janice Jones states.

The investigation will go on. Jones had been transported to the Huntington Beach hospital then later transported to the Irvine Medical center.

ethics (FINALLY DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Story 1:

 Using the ‘Holocaust’ Metaphor

Summary:
In 2003, PETA launched a new campaign, named "Holocaust on Your Plate," That compares the slaughter of animals for a human to use to the murder of 6 million Jews in WWII. "Holocaust on your Plate," Juxtaposes 60-square-foot visual displays of animals in a slaughterhouses wit scenes of Nazi concentration camps. Abraham Foxman, The U.S Anti-Defamation League national director and a Holocaust survivor was Highly offended by PETA's campaign.

Opinion:
As a Russian/Jew I Am highly offended by this. Although I do Love an care for animals and agree with PETA on some terms this is far beyond okay. I lost my Great Great Grandfather to it and many others. This is no way to compare what we eat to human lives.

Story 2:

Aaargh! Pirates! (and the Press)

Summary:
The music industry sales are declining since 1999 due to illegal music downloads. The Digital music community is very vast so it is hard to track down how it all began. In the recent years, fans had refused to buy the music. with iTunes and other music apps, it made the music industry seem a little outdated. These services are allowing the people to listen to the leaked music but not download it onto their hard drive (which is the problem). They are pointing fingers to the Billboard and Rollingstone, but as they said they are not forcing the readers to download it.

Opinion:
I don't have much a say on this topic but I do know the old fashion buying the song is simply a thing of the past. I'm honestly no surprise that there are illegal downloads of music via online. In our day of age, we listen to the music for free or on a paid subscription. Of course, though it is not a good thing to steal or download yet to be released music or just music in general. welcome to 2-18 and counting.

Story 3:

Controversy over a Concert

Summary:
During the elections in 2004, some concerts were funding certain political parties. Due to this journalists aren't supposed to be on any side and the main head forbids them from attending these concerts even when they are not in the on the job. This caused a feud in the office since the head was stopping them from going to a concert they want to enjoy. The big question was " Is it fair to ask newspaper staffers, or employs at other news media, for that matter, not to attend events that may have a political purpose? Are the rules different for different for different jobs at the news outlet? The decision was made by the top executive at Rocky Mountain News.

Opinion:
I don't hold much of an opinion for this story to be completely honest, but I do think restricting staff from going to a concert for a political reason is a little too much. I would rather it not be a problem and just let the staff enjoy the music that they paid to go see no matter where the money is going.
