Final exam review


1. Timeliness- a time in which the article focuses on.
2. Proximity- something that is in a close/nearby area of you or a noun.
3. Human Interest-  something that draws the attention of other people and media that has experiences and emotion
4. Prominence-state of being important or famous
5. Conflict- Often the main reason for the article, the issue
6. Interviews-  Asking questions to use as a quote in an article and to know more about the issue you are speaking of.
7. Research- Finding more about an issue, going as far as visiting the place, as for reading from other recourses.
8. Quotations- used to show what the quote is word for word (",") 
9. Yes-no question- questions you want to avoid when interviewing 
10. follow-up question- A question that follows up on the same subject.
11. Objective writing- writing on a certain objective.
12. Transition paragraph- from one subject to the other in a paragraph, changing perspective etc.
13. Hard news story- very factual
14. Soft news story- more storytelling and less stating facts, it has emotion etc
15. Inverted Pyramid-
16. Third-person point of view- ho information should be structured, from newsworthy info to important details, to background information.
17. 5 Ws and H lead- who, what, when, where, why, how factual lede
18. editing- Correction, Organization, modifications etc to the writing piece to convey information.
19. attribution-explanation to events and behaviors.
20. paraphrase- Restatement of text
21. fragmentary quotation- when more words are added before or after the quote
22. direct quotation- In the exact words, from the author/ or person you may be interviewing.
23. partial quotation- Only partially the quote was used; like a person says a paragraph but you only really need to use one sentence.
24. Uses of quotations- To show where the quote's direct words are.
25. When to use quotations- when you use quotations make sure they are directly before and after the quote.
26. When quotations are unnecessary or not desired
27. Editorial- preparing the information (article/story/etc) to be released.
28. editorial page- letter to the editor from the general public.
29. columns- Articles that are smaller in size and not as much of an impact to hold the first page.
30. editorial that criticizes - the new's opinion that criticizes the issue.
31. editorial that explains- The new's opinion that explains the issue.
32. editorial that persuades- the new's opinion that persuades their side of the issue, or the whole thing its self.
33. letter to the editor- editorial page
