Aperture, shutter speed and ISO - what are they?

Example uno- f2.8

Image result for aperture setting F2.8 examples

example dos- f16
Image result for photo taken at F 16 or higher examples aperture

1. What part of the body should we closely relate aperture? the lens/ opening of the lens

2. Finish this sentence - the smaller the Aperture the less light, the higher the Aperture the more light.

3. In your own words tell me how aperture impacts Depth of Field1. If you were assigned to shoot at Bulldogs and Hotdogs night, which was a few months ago, what shutter speeds do you think you would have to shoot at the following events that night I would like you to answer the question for the following two situations:

At the beginning while the sun was still up and the courtyard had a reasonable good light-medium
aperture, f9
a.) a booth in the middle of the yard near the Tree - I would use since it is still outside which I'm guessing would be mostly sunny, f9.
b.) a food booth outside under one of the big red awnings- Since it is still outside I would go down too much, but it is out of the sun so f6.
c.) the Stars performance inside the gym-Since this is indoors and lighting indoors is pretty low f2.8.
d.) students dancing near the center of the courtyard-Since this is outside in the sun,f9.
e.) people streaming in from the front doors- The front is covered so there isn't much sun so f5.
f.) the basketball booth where students are shooting basketballs at a hoop(outside? or inside)- I'm hoping this is inside so f3.

Towards the end when there is no sun and has gotten dark enough that you can't see from one end of the courtyard to the other.yikes

a.) a booth in the middle of the yard near the Tree- Outside is very dark so f2.8.
b.) a food booth outside under one of the big red awnings- Still dark out so f3 maybe.
c.) the Stars performance inside the gym-Indoor lighting isn't great so f3.
d.) students dancing near the center of the courtyard-Since it is dark out f2.8.
e.) people streaming in from the front doors- Might be some light but not enough so f3.
f.) the basketball booth where students are shooting basketballs at a hoop(inside??)-Since this is inside f3.

2. List the three settings your camera has regarding setting shutter speed (these are found by clicking on the hyperlink labeled: Camera Modes on the Shutter Speed website in the paragraph titled How to Set Shutter Speed). Explain how each works - DO NOT COPY AND PASTE, use your own words.

ISO adds light to the picture without actually letting in more light, basically makes the picture brighter. Shutter speed allows more light into the camera sensor, this also determines how long the shutter is when taking the picture, you can add more shutter speed to capture moving objects to make it almost look still in motion (without blur). Aperture Controls how much light get in, from the lens; works kinda like a pupil with the lens getting bigger for less light and lens getting smaller in situations with alot of light/more light.

1. What are the advantages of shoot at a higher ISO at a sporting event like basketball or a night football game? ISO brings more light to the image without actually letting in more light.
2. What suggestions did the author make about using a low ISO? If there is plenty of light you can use low ISO.
3. What suggestions did the author make about using a high ISO? When there is not enough light for the area high ISO can add light without actually letting in more light especially when it is not there.

List the aperture settings available on this camera. Goes from 2.8- 22 aperture.
List the shutter speed settings available on this camera. Goes from 1 second to 1/4000 second.
List the ISO settings available on this camera  Goes from 100 ISO to 25600 ISO. Impressive.

Photo Manipulation and Ethics

A. What are some of the main points you read about on the website above regarding manipulating images?

B. What is the philosophy of newspapers like the Washington Post and the New York times regarding image manipulation?

C. What do you think are acceptable things you could do to an image and not cross the line unto an unethical manipulation?

To bring out the main features in a photo, to portray the mood better and maybe even stronger.
